Five Homeschooling Tips
for Day to Day Life

Are you looking for some homeschooling tips? Are you wondering how to get everything done? What are you going to do with your children all day long? With a little planning and organizing you will be able to teach you children at home and have fun doing it.

Lesson Plans

Schooling does not take six hours a day. You will not be teaching your children reading, writing, math, social studies, and science for six hours. With proper planning you will be done with school in half of the time.

After your child can read let him be independent. Give him literature, biographies, and science books that he can read.

Also you can write lesson plans explaining what he can do independently and what you will teach.

Schedule Your Time

Organize your time so that you can get every thing done. Some parents like to useday planners. There are ones made especially for homeschoolers. There are even some planners for students

If you don't use a planner you should at least have a daily schedule for school. A schedule will help you plan outside activities and keep you organized. Don't be a slave to your schedule. Make sure that you have added some downtime to your schedule.

When you have children around all day long the house gets messy. One way to take care of the mess and still have school is to use chore charts. Even young children can learn to do chores

You can even make a homeschool schedule online. Homeschool Records is a free online homeschool calendar/scheduler, grade keeper and allowance tracker.

Have Some Fun

Find some ways to have fun. Play board games. Many games are fun and are educational. If you believe that:

  • Memorizing information is part of being a student
  • Games help make memorization fun and easy
  • Games take time to create, You don't have enough time
Then teaching with Games can help. Teach with Games has the educational games ready for you to download and print.

Besides board games allow your child to play educational games on the internet or buy him software.

Another fun activity is to watch a video together. Many educational videos are geared to children and are fun to watch.

Art and crafts are also fun. My son took a woodworking class at a co-op. I have taught my girls to crochet.

There are a lot of ways for a family to have fun.

Plan for Emergencies

When you teach at home you need to plan for emergencies. One day you might be ill or one of your children. An older family member might need your help. As the saying goes life happens. You need to plan for it.

Provide your child some books that he can read on his own. Also give him some easy math. There are usually some things that your child can. At this time let him practice his independence.

Keep Records

Don't forget to keep records of your child's schoolwork. Keeping records is especially important in high school. Keeping good record can help your child attend college.
